Little Company of Mary hospitals rated A for safety
The Leapfrog Group fall grades released today
SOUTH BAY (Nov. 7, 2019) – Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Centers in San Pedro and Torrance earned ‘A’ grades today for the fifth consecutive reporting period from a nonprofit organization committed to quality and safety in the nation’s hospitals.
The independent Leapfrog Group’s Hospital Safety Grade measures achievements in protecting patients from harm and in providing safer health care.
“Our physicians and staff have created a culture of quality and safety at Little Company of Mary, and are committed to providing exceptional care for our patients,” said Garry Olney, chief executive of the Torrance and San Pedro campuses. “Our medical centers have received an “A” rating for five consecutive reporting periods. This recognition is a tribute to our physicians, nurses and other professional staff who are steadfast in their efforts to protect our patients from harm and to provide some of the safest care in the South Bay. ”
The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog committed to improving health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers. The safety grade assigns an ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’ or ‘F’ grade to all general hospitals across the country based on their performances in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harms to patients in their care.
“‘A’ hospitals show us their leadership is protecting patients from preventable medical harm and error,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “It takes genuine commitment at every level – from clinicians to administrators to the board of directors – and we congratulate the teams who have worked so hard to earn this A.”
Developed under the guidance of a national expert panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.
