Mental health institute focuses on community health

May 5, 2017

Providence St. Joseph Health is poised to create a broad national movement to promote mental health so that individuals and communities can thrive. The health care system launched the Institute for Mental Health and Wellness, now called the Well Being Trust, with the goal of nurturing healthy communities that naturally give rise to mental and emotional well-being.

What makes a health community? Safe streets, adequate housing, good education and strong social networks. Providence St. Joseph believes community wellness can reduce the incidence of mental illness, homelessness and addiction. Tyler Norris, chief executive officer of the Well Being Trust, explains Providence St. Joseph’s vision and the institute’s first steps to achieving it.
